Happy Summer! The warm weather arrived with its cousin humidity in the Midwest. Hope that a cool breeze is blowing wherever you are as you read this.

Sunrises = 17,880 And Counting

In Uncategorized on 2010/06/13 at 6:15 am

Amazing Sunrise - AGAIN

I’ve been on vacation this week. I have absolutely loved it! Within this week, I’ve seen an ad three times from the Michigan Ad Council. The narrator talks about the fact that we all get 25,000 mornings is all we humans get, give or take. I just did the math, and if I heard the man correctly, this number would be based on a life expectancy of 68.5 years. If my calculations are correct, I’ve had 17,880 of mine, as of today. Wow! I think that I’d better change my ways if I want to really rise to greet and appreciate the remaining  7,120. By the way, I certainly expect to add about 7,300 to that life’s average. Even with the additional 7,300 it makes me aware that the resource called “time” is precious, and doesn’t get replenished. This is it. This is life. It’s not a dress rehearsal.

The commercial creeped into my consciousness and made me wonder, “Am I accomplishing what I’m here to accomplish? Am I trying too hard to have a unique and impactful life or am I not trying hard enough? Am I making the bold choices that will shape my destiny?” I think that I’m throwing myself at life, but can I really be sure? I’ve had hope and dream ripples within each decade of my adult life. And yet, I don’t feel that I’m there yet.

More than ten years ago, I worked for a company that taught me an important lesson in life. We lived the motto daily “Plan the Work. Work the Plan.” Each day, we reserved 45 minutes to plan the next day’s work. The following morning, we worked the plan and planned the next day’s work all over again.

In my own work and in my workshops and training, I am making every effort to live to the wise corporate motto.  If you have had a life change or transition that has left you wondering “What Next?” or “What is my real purpose?”, then I invite you to sign up for my blog and consider joining me for an upcoming workshop (go to http://www.destinyrising.com).

Participating in the work I offer will really help you rev up your life. Even if you just check in occasionally, you can watch the Destiny Rising journey from your couch. Whenever you decide that you’d like to jump into the stream, you’ll be welcome.

In the meantime, enjoy your sunrises and try to be present for as many of them as possible. How about starting tomorrow? There’s not time to waste!

Have a great week 🙂

Secret Agent Plan!

In Uncategorized on 2010/06/08 at 11:31 pm

Who doesn’t like a good spy film or novel? If you’re like me, you’d love to be a secret agent. It appears to have lots of mystery, intrigue and excitement built into the lifestyle.

Here’s your opportunity: While you are busy being all things to all people, you can create a business plan that can sit innocently on your desk or be posted on your wall that can work as your secret agent  in the background. Who would know that the collage of pictures can only be deciphered by you, and that it’s your powerful weapon for success?

Similar to a monthly calendar, you can have a refreshed monthly vision board/plan in front of you for the 40,50 or 70 hours a week that you’re working. If you are a road warrior, keep your agent in your planner or portfolio.  Investing a few hours each month in the creation of a visual plan for where you want to go within your company or where you’d like to see your company positioned, you may be amazed by how much ground you can cover in very little time.

Creating your secret agent plan is quite easy:

•    Make a list of what you’d like to have more or less of in your life one year from today.
•    Page through magazines or head to the internet to find some public domain photos that capture the essence of what you’d like to see in your life.
•    Put a timeframe on the changes you’d like to see. 30, 90, 180, 260. Group the pictures accordingly.
•    Choose a poster board that will give you room enough to post your pictures, and then group by timeframe and secure them on your board. You might also find numbers to correspond with your timeframes..
•    Take digital photos of your board, and strategically place them in three places:
➢    In an 8.5 X 11 frame for your desk
➢    As a screen saver or background for your computer
➢    As the background on your cell phone
•    Set a monthly appointment in your calendar to repeat the exercise. Stick to the appointment.

You’ll be amazed in just a few months at the progress you’re making. You’ll also have a great record of what you were thinking month by month when you look back.

And the best part… You are your own secret agent of change.

You’re Invited to a Summer Special Event on 06/19!

Windy City - My Hometown

About a year ago, I started working toward a new venture titled “Destiny Rising”. I have combined my creative, business and training experience into a venture that will help people define, clarify and  move  in the direction of their career and personal goals. In short, I work with people to create a vision for their future

So many people talk about wanting to start new companies, change careers, and have greater personal and professional success. Interestingly, people know that they want to head in some direction, but they don’t know how to start or chart a course of action, so they end up in a circular conversation and don’t have the fun and satisfaction of living a life they love.

I know dozens of people who are at a fork in the road. You may fit into one of these categories, or know people who do:

  • Your last child has started school (grade school, high school, college)
  • You’re newly single and want some great new direction in your life
  • You’ve spent the last decade(s) supporting a spouse in his or her career pursuits and now it’s your turn to pursue your dreams
  • You’ve been downsized
  • You’ve been working for “the establishment” for most of your career and it’s time for an entrepreneurial endeavor
  • You’re an entrepreneur and you’re feeling a bit stalled
  • You’ve got a nice retirement nest egg and now you are looking for purposeful work

If you fit in one of these categories – this workshop is for  you! I’ll be presenting  “Building a Powerful Vision Board” in the Chicago area on Saturday, June 19th. It’s interactive, it’s fun, it produces great results and it’s a valuable step to your future.

Go to my website:  www.destinyrising.com for details.

I’d like to get a sense of the group size by June 13th, so if you can respond by then, I’d appreciate it.

Have a great week!
